Re: Tournament Naming

I find the acronyms amusing when they're clever. FUCT was pretty
clever. I even got a chuckle out of SLUTT, as it fits so well with
the school's actual name. But CUNT was the first time I've ever seen
a tournament name and thought, "That's awful." I can't pinpoint any
sort of hard and fast rules as to why this one's offensive and the
others weren't so bad, but I don't like this one. It's not simply
because it has a sexual connotation, but because it has a
marginalizing, filthy, ugly sexual connection. I don't think many
women would make this their word of choice when referring to their
own bodies. And if it's being used as an insult, there's nothing good-
natured about it. Even "skank" and "prick" can be tossed off as jokes-
calling someone a cunt is invariably nasty, hurtful and lowbrow.
There's no way to use the word that is not in extremely poor taste
(in no humorous way). You don't have to be a woman to find this
offensive. It's akin to naming a tournament "you dumb bitch." If the
name is being changed because "CUNT" is supposed to be funnier- it's
not. If the name is being changed to one-up the other "curse word"
tournament acronyms- that's just pointless.
