group as an undergraduate, the most likely justification for these
kinds of regulations is to insulate the school from the student groups
(and vice versa) when it becomes a question of financial liabilities
and audits.

It seems to be rather important that the school's name not appear in
the student group names, so that the groups are considered (legally,
at least) as separate entities which won't come under scrutiny.
Additionally, if a group is considered to be separate from the
university, and runs into financial difficulties, then there's no
requirement that the university bail out the student group (which
might theoretically be possible if the group was considered to be part
of the university).
