Sorry, Doug, though you are right in posting that
we shouldn't start another religion/quizbowl debate,
I have to say something.

The fact is that
the tournament is not on Easter anyway. Easter is the
following day. On the other hand, tournaments have been
held right on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the
Jewish year.

Originally I disagreed with you when
you posted something saying that the holidays of the
Wiccan religion and others had to be recognized as well,
if you recognize one religion. Now I agree with the
real point, which means that schools and organizations
are free to put tournaments on whatever day they
want, teams/players are free to go to them or not, and
those hosts are free to suffer the financial
consequences if those teams don't go.

Ideally it would
be better if hosts can avoid the major holidays as
much as possible, but with all the tournaments out
there, it is not possible all of the time.
