Note to self: Must destroy Sean's abacus.

What was that? Oh. Results! WUAT hosted what I dubbed the Midwestern
Extravaganza of Academics and TRASH: 2 days, 2 formats, 2
tournaments... 1 individual champion for both of them.

-----
Gateway Invitational (Saturday)
19 teams competed in two divisions for most of the day. There were a
few almost-disasters: I didn't know Northwestern was coming, OK State
got lost and offered to forfeit the first game, etc. but once it got
going, the tournament ran rather smoothly.
Round-Robin Results:
Pool A: Truman St 8-1, N'western 7-2, DePauw A 6-3; Oklahoma 5-4,
Grinnell 5-4, Ill-Chicago 5-4; Rolla B 4-5, OK State B 2-7, Rhodes A
2-7, Ill-Springfield 1-8.
Pool B: Illinois-UC 7-1, Missouri 7-1, DePauw B 5-3; Rolla A 5-3, OK
State A 4-4, Tulsa 4-4; Rose Hulman 3-5, Rhodes B 1-7, Notre Dame 0-8.
All ties were nice enough to be broken by Head-to-Head.

Top 3 in each bracket went to the top playoff bracket, then next 3 in
each, then everyone else. Notre Dame left at this point.
UIUC was unbeaten in the playoff bracket through 4 rounds, and had a
one-game lead on Northwestern when they met in the last round.
Northwestern won 560-140 with ridiculous bonus conversion, forcing a
one-game playoff for the title. Northwestern took that 330-290 to
claim the championship.
Complete Team Standings
Top Bracket: N'western 5-1, UIUC 4-2, Missouri 3-2, DePauw A 2-3,
DePauw B 1-4, Truman St 1-4.
Middle Bracket: Oklahoma 4-1, Rolla A 3-2, OK State A 3-2, Tulsa 2-3,
Grinnell 2-3, Ill-Chicago 1-4.
Bottom Bracket (sorta screwed up): RHIT 4-0, Rolla B 4-1, OK State B
2-2, Rhodes A 1-3, Rhodes B 1-3, Ill-Springfield 1-4, Notre Dame left.

Individual Leaders: This was no contest. Jason Mueller of Mizzou
completely dominated the field, posting 116.25 PPG. Second place was
Chris Grubb of RHIT at 63.12. The rest of the top 10:
3. Angelo Malabanan, Tulsa
4. John Scognamiglio, Truman
5. Andy Wehrman, Northwestern
6. Colin Brown, OK State A
7. Gary Leuty, Illinois
(tie) Adam, DePauw B
9. Andrew Willey, Rhodes A
10. Brian, DePauw A
Andy W (12 in 8 games) and Bob Johnson of Ill-Chicago (13 in 9 games)
had the most powers, and Bob lapped the field with 20 negs.

TRASH Midwest Regionals (Sunday)
14 teams competed in two divisions. Lots of fun was had by all. Then
there were playoffs. It was good.
Round-Robin Results:
Pool A: Northwestern 5-1, Tulsa (Alcoholics Synonymous) 5-1, DePauw A
(Party of Fives) 5-1, Rolla (It's All Pink in the Middle) 3-3;
Oklahoma (Lightswitch Rave) 2-4, Missouri B (Evil Closet Monkeys) 1-5,
Rhodes 0-6.
Pool B: UIUC (Federal Cash Commission) 5-1, Missouri A (Columbian
Trash Lords) 4-2, WUSTL House 4-2, DePauw B (The Lunarians) 4-2;
Truman St (Germane Greer Death Squad) 3-3, Springfield A 1-5,
Springfield B 0-6.

Top 4 from each went to playoffs, bottom 3 went to consolations.
Carryover, blah blah.
Sean declared, "Everybody's a loser!" as we entered the playoffs, and
indeed so it was, but Illinois won their first three playoff games. So
did Tulsa, setting up what would essentially be a best-of-3 for the
title. The first game, in the last playoff round, went to Tulsa
180-120. After awards were given out, and buzzers were taken down,
buzzers were put back together when we realized "Hey, there are more
games!" Tulsa took the title with a 220-120 win, leaving Illinois on
the short end for the second straight day.
Complete Team Standings
Top Bracket: Tulsa 7-1, Illinois 5-3, Missouri A 4-3, Northwestern
4-3, DePauw A 4-3, DePauw B 3-4, Rolla 1-6, WUSTL 1-6.
Bottom Bracket: Missouri B 4-0, Truman St 3-1, Rhodes 2-2, Springfield
A 1-3, Springfield B 0-4.
I'm amused that DePauw A, "Party of Fives", finished 5th.

Individual Leaders: For the second straight day, Mueller's team
finished third, but he got top individual awards, but it wasn't as
ridiculous a romp on Sunday. He put up 62.5 PPG, with Cami Fedre of
Missouri B second at 46.67. The rest of the top 10:
3. John S, Germane
(tie) Dave Kiang, Federal
5. Jose Cuervo, Alcoholics
6. Colby Burnett, Northwestern
7. Matt Schneider, House team
(8. Andy Wehrman, Northwestern)
9. Mad Dog, Germane
10. Delano Barnes, House team
Andy wasn't eligible for prizes as he only played 2 games.
Colby and "Five Across the Eyes" from Party of Fives each had 7 negs,
which was the most.
