Singles Tournaments - Advice Needed!

This is a request for advice from anyone who has
ever been involved in running a singles Quizbowl
tournament.

Over here in the UK, we've never tried a singles
tournament before, but we're thinking about doing one
sometime next year. What I'm looking for is advice and
help from anyone who's run such a tournament before,
or from people who know a lot about these
things.

The basic things I'd like to know for the minute
are:

What format do you use? Timed or untimed?
What's
the best way of structuring the tournament?
Do you
play one-on-one or are there other ways of doing
it?
How do you work out how many questions to ask each
player to write?
How do you deal with the sheer
number of rooms, moderators, buzzers, etc.
needed?
What are the big "do"s and "don't"s? ;-)

Any
and all advice is appreciated, as I said. Please
e-mail to quiz_at_...

Thanks!
