Re: Singles Tournaments - Advice Needed!

I was sort of, but not heavily, involved in the
Every Man for Himself singles tournament, which was
held here in July, and pretty heavily involved in the
Music of the Century and Heavy Rotation singles-play
music contests.

In my opinion, a singles
tournament shouldn't have bonuses, or, if it does, keep the
value of the bonuses small (<10pts.). Bonuses test
depth of knowledge by a team, which is kind of
pointless when the teams are all of one; also, in a singles
tournament, the bonus only goes to one person, so everyone
else in the room sits around doing nothing most of the
time.

In general, it's impractical to have all the rounds
be one-on-one. Better to play six or eight to a
room, and rank the players from that.

Submission
in singles tournaments could be exquisitely tricky;
you might be better off using questions from another
event here in the States, sufficiently edited by the
tournament's hosts...although that does present the British
vs. American bias problem.
