A Great Time to be a SocStu Teacher!!!!

Think about it. People care about things like the
Electoral College, Popular Vote, Electors, Samuel B.
Tilden, and Doris Kearns Goodwin. I finally get to use my
polisci geekdom for good rather than to annoy, even if I
did have to explain "butterfly ballot" and 270 to my
students five times today. They didn't want to do the
decline and fall of Rome (OK, neither did I) they were
actually intellectually curious. As a H.S. SS teacher, you
take what you can get.

Also, now I get to show
a balanced electoral map for future reference, not
the classic Mondale "stomped like a narc at a biker
rally" map of 1984. ("Here you can clearly see that the
people of the District of Columbia know who they
wanted.")

So, now we play the waiting game, which is you all
know sucks and we have now moved on to play Hungry
Hungry Hippos against Jeb Bush, Stephen Ambrose, and
George Stephanopolous.

Oh, and one more thing.
Tim Russert, one of my favorite fellow Irishmen,
sitting there last night with dry erase boards like he
was back in a college dorm, was my favorite part of
the night, other than maybe the punch drunk Tom
Brokaw's pontification as to what Al Gore does now.
"Hello, Harvard, is that presidency still open? What do
you mean you're giving it to Bill?" "Hello,
Dreamworks?"

Oh also, the Martin and Lewis reunions were less
awkward than Bill and Hillary last night on stage in
NY?

Also, in repose to the Bruce's comments, I had a neat
and orderly election here in Livonia. Scantron voting
booths, marker pens, cubicles, an election scanner, and a
15-minute wait. I even spotted Jimmy Carter observing
things to make sure it was running fairly.

That
is all...
