Ahh, Kennedy-Nixon. I won't even make the
pretense that this post is on-topic, but it just dredged
up one of my earliest clear memories. I was 4 years
old, my mother had taken me to a large outdoor
Halloween costume party with my cousins, and I was already
capable of reading quite well.Two kids were dressed up in
matching ghost costumes; one was masked as Kennedy, the
other as Nixon. They were wearing signs bearing the
slogan "DON'T BE A DEADBEAT IN THE DEBATE". As Berke
Breathed had one of his characters say, about 20 years
later: "Who put the elections so close to Halloween?"
