Region 9 problems in detail (part 2)

6. The moderators were awful. No one read as
though they had any idea what the Enbglish language was
supposed to sound like in normal reading (including the
"voice of VU basketball", who was all show-biz and
wasted a lot of time.

7. Other tourney staff were
belligerant, too, besides having no idea whatthey were doing.
One person, designated to clear the buzzer system
refused to stop clearing it IMMEDIATELY after someone
buzzed, despite our asking her to wait, so that the
players could mroe clearly see who had buzzed and not
risk saying an answer on someone else's buzz. Time
keepers were awful, too. One (the coach of the winning
team) even gave one of our players a dirty look when
she suggested that the clock be stopped because the
reader ran into ANOTHER problem, rather than waste time,
rather than just being courteous and stopping the
clock.

8. Even the form given to all players and coaches
was messed up. It did not include a place to indicate
if the person was a player. It may be minor, but
it's a good microcosm of how stupid everything was on
Saturday.

This is also DePauw's official intention to host next
year's Regionals. The old addage "If you think it's so
bad then do better!" will become our mantra. Based on
how bad things were, it will not be hard.
