Among the topics of discussion that the ACUI/College Bowl committee will discuss is ... (1) Mandatory Round Robin for field sizes under [insert number here, think somewhere in the 12 to 16 ballpark]. Obviously I think a lot of the regions went to the weird divisional formats because of the two limiting factors of (1) packets of questions [25 total, but some regions may buy more than others for whatever reason, but confirm that first] and (2) logistics (ie, buzzers or staff). I say this because R7 "should" have had a 2/3 series semifinal but we didn't because we didn't have enough readers (4 rooms) and questions to accommodate it. (2) Clear tiebreaking instructions for playoffs. I think that the usual standard we used up here was the recommended standard but wasn't codified. In short: a) Head-to-head W-L b) Point differential in matches in which the tied teams are involved c) Points scored in matches in which the tied teams are involved d) Points per game throughout the tournament e) Pie-eating contest (just kidding) That brings me to a point on the differences between regions and how they run things. Obviously some regions have RC's (regional coordinators) that are very willing to work with students, and those most likely are the regions with the least number of confrontations or complaints. It is unfortunate that all regions are not headed by someone who is dedicated to and listens to the participating students as much as others. If you do have problems with the way your Region was run, I suggest that you itemize and deliver your complaints to Frank Gencur (from Ohio State), who is the chairman of the ACU-I College Bowl Committee. Unfortunately he will be stepping down as the Chairman after this year; he has been a great advocate for us in the committee and understands that feedback from the students is critical to the success of the CB program. We can only hope that his successor (I think it will be Don Tucker from Cal State Sacramento) is as willing to work with us or hear our positive suggestions and our negative complaints in the future. Frank's email address is gencur.1_at_... . I emphasize again, please be civil; he really does take all complaints and suggestions seriously.
