I'm sorry if you think the concept of a quizbowl camp sounds ludicrous, but if you're the sort of person that believes quizbowl (and hanging around quizbowl message boards) is a good use of time, then surely going to camp is a wonderful use of time. I would say that a huge portion of my success as a HS player is due to what i learned at camp. You are familiarized with different formats of tournament, you learn important information in your chosen subject area (science, social studies, or lit), you meet other players and get closer to your teammates, and, i believe this is important to many of you, you get to show off! Most of all, it's a lot of fun! It's not just quizbowl 24/7-- some of my best memories from HS quizbowl are from camp and i highly recommend it to any HS player looking to improve their abilites. You go to soccer camp to become a better soccer player, so it makes sense that there should be a quiz bowl camp to make you a better quiz bowl player. Sure, the idea of a quizbowl camp is "nerdy" but so is the game in general, and if you're willing to admit that, the camp is a great idea. My HS coach is one of the people running the camp, so if you're interested in camp, you can email me at rachelalden_at_... and i'll pass your names on to her for more info. -rachel
