I think the clarification needs to be made here
that at a national tournament like the ICT, part of
the allure for teams that won't really be contending
for the title is the opportunity to play against
geographically diverse teams.

For example, at the 1998
ICT, Pitt played John Edwards ("Howard") three times
-- once during power matching and twice during
ladder play.

Mr. Edwards had been a somewhat
regular opponent for us during the regular season as
well, so to play him three times out of a total 16 (I
think) games was quite extreme. I would much have rather
played more teams from the south and west that we had
little opportunity to see on the circuit.

It's
not a question of being challenged (that's what the
questions are supposed to do) -- people just want to play
against different opponents.
