Re: Calling My Bluff

Will Yahoo clubs ever get a decent quoting
mechanism? Anyway...

<<Again you're speaking
out of your ass, Andy.>>

[PICKRELL]In
your rush to excoriate Goss, you forgot that he
mentioned "(for many of my teammates -- as said before,
I'll play damn near anything)" ... in that the opinion
he was stating was THAT OF HIS TEAMMATES. Andy said
I'LL PLAY DAMN NEAR ANYTHING.[P]

Uh, yeah, I
read that. Thank you for shouting at me. Besides, if
Andy's going to speak for his teammates, then he can
reply for them too.

<<Other teams could
only afford to go to one national tournament, and
since there's usually a bigger NAQT contingent at most
schools, they win.>>

[P]Dave, why do you
think this is the case?[P]

There are lots of
reasons which you and I both know already, including
preferences of distribution, the weekend warrior phenomenon,
and people who have never given ACF a real chance
because their teammates are unwilling to
play.

<<What is your reasoning behind the statement that ACF
is only interested in the best
teams?>>

[P]Again, let's ask the 'bigger NAQT contingent' why they
prefer NAQT over ACF.[P]

Are you implying that
this is one of the reasons?

<<I made a
concerted effort to recruit new teams for Nationals this
year, and ACF has traditionally offered discounts and
other incentives to inexperienced teams. In addition,
the ACF question archive is available free for teams
that want to get better; the other formats makes you
pay a crapload for old
questions.>>

[P]This is correct. ACF has made an effort to reach out
over the past several years; sadly, the prejudices of
past years have been laid down.[P]

So why do
you insist on perpetuating them, just as you did one
quote above?

[P]Should quizbowl be an activity
that calls for a high level of committment from all
its players? Or are weekend warriors
welcome?[P]

ACF does not call for a high level of commitment, and
weekend warriors are welcome. If you are a weekend
warrior and don't do well, though, then it's not because
ACF is catering to the best teams. If I dragged my
fat ass onto a basketball court and got whooped, then
should I complain that the people who play all the time
are doing too well and demand that the baskets be
lowered a couple of feet so I can do better? The same
argument is just as valid to NAQT; they have a generally
established difficulty for their tournaments too. Some teams
did not do so well at the ICT. How could those elite
bastards at NAQT focus only on the top teams? THIS IS AN
OUTRAGE!

<<Also, why the hell are you babbling about CBI if you
have so little experience with
it?>>

[P]How much experience do YOU have with CBI,
Dave?[P]

Uhh, none Shaun. That's why I kept my mouth shut until
it turned to ACF.

<<Every time someone
dares to say something inflammatory on this list, you
start flailing about like a decapitated
chicken.>>

[P]Kenny was the first one to reply to Edmund's
post.[P]

And this contradicts my statement
how?

<<Maybe it would be more constructive to allocate the
time you spend posting to studying for
quizbowl.>>

[P]I know, the nerve of Andy to post on a public
forum.

Shawn Pickrell[P]

Again, I didn't tell Andy that
I didn't want him to post anymore, I was just
giving him some time management tips. Did you even fully
read my message in your rush to excoriate me? Stop
putting words in my mouth.

Dave
