Moon Pie Classic Comments

Let me first say that Charlie and his staff
do
one thing very well at UTC that my entire
team
appreciated -- HAVE FUN! The tournament was a great time, and
we had some of the closest matches our team has ever
had, even considering the relatively weak team we
brought.

Also, this idea of two divisions of ACF has some merit,
I think, and I hope it catches
on
elsewhere.

All that being said, there were a couple things that
I hope can be worked out before we attend (we're
planning on doing so, despite these things) next year's
tournament.

First, I understand things run a little slower in the
South, but for those of us (DPU, Wash U, others) who had
enormous drives ahead of us last night, the tournament
ended at 6:30, and we couldn't even stay for awards if
we wanted to get back before 4 am (we got back at 3,
as it was).

Next, I thought the packets
needed some more editing. There were quite a few packets
the Division II people played that were written
by
teams that are not on the normal circuit and probably
have less question writing experience, therefore, and
that contained quite a few hose questions that my team
and our opponents were regularly screwed up
by.

Lastly, when the tourney is run next year, using one
division per building might help things run faster, rather
than the Division II building moderators (some of whom
were on the 3rd and 4th floors) walking back to the
other building to get the next packet and then trekking
back to their room. If there is any way to have each
division have to go back only to the ground floor of a
gven building, and having stats and packets taken care
of there, that might be faster.

Still, do not
take this to mean our team (who only went 2-9, but
could have been 5-6, by virtue of 3 losses by less than
10 points (all games that we led sometime in the
last 3 tossups), including one overtime game) did not
have fun. Even though the drive is long, we'll
probably be back next year, because the tourney is a good
time and the people we competed against were good,
too.

So raise a glass to Charlie and his staff
for
running a good, fun tournament and wish them all luck on
the RC Cola Classic today!
