Re: On an unrelated note....

Here's your substantive reply, it's certainly
more than you deserve:

I'm sure some quizbowl
old timer can tell me all
sorts of things,
probably more than a few that don't reflect terribly well
on you, either. I really don't care. (And what does
it matter if what I say is professional? I'm not the
head guy behind one of the major circuits. Try to make
some sense with your insults if you're going to invest
time in them. And while we're at it, why are you
insulting me anyway? Do you think that somehow makes you
look more professional?)

I only know what I see
and read, mainly from here, and I see this: where the
person who speaks for NAQT is accomodating and works
hard (a completely and obviously unfounded charge of
plagiarism provokes a late night run to the office), the
person that speaks with authority for ACF on this board
acts condescending (and in the worst kind of way -
without foundation) and takes swipes at the competition.
I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt
over that first NAQT jibe, but you've brought more of
that crap back in your latest post. If you had any
guts, you'd tell us the deep dark skeletons of NAQT
past, instead of hiding behind others.

If you
were one-tenth as concerned about ACF's image as you
act like you are, you'd either 1)keep quiet or 2)at
least avoid tactless nonsense like these rather obvious
digs at NAQT. In the failure of those two, you could
then at least 3)be a man and backtrack. I'm not
holding my breath.

Get a grip on yourself. You're
one-fourth of the quizbowl universe (which, I might add,
isn't a terribly important universe when everything is
said and done). Your format is enjoyable to play. But
don't convince yourself that you're the end of
everything. NAQT puts on a pretty damn good show too. For
that matter, more schools from more parts of the
country showed up to CBI nationals. People accuse CBI of
just about anything ranging from bad questions to the
Bay of Pigs, but Mary is friendly and responsive. Can
you say that? Forget my suggestion that you take
pointers from NAQT... take some baby steps, start with
CBI.

There's more to a quizbowl tournament or a quizbowl
circuit than questions with pyramidal structures. Maybe
if you'd realize that, you'd get another essential
element: the respect of others.

I should add, as a
little disclaimer, that what I say isn't directed toward
ACF itself, merely at the author of the post I am
replying to. As I have said before, I enjoy both formats.
I simply find this interformat trash talking to
really, really tasteless, and in the worst interest of
the circuit at large. I have a feeling I'm not the
only person who thinks this, either.
