Pennsylvania also has (or had) a format with
three teams competing at once, with a tossup-bonus
format (5 points for each, 1 part bonus). This was
followed by a 6 question Ben Steinesque "fanfare round" to
be completed in 60 seconds. This format (I believe)
came from the Chester County championships, and was
adopted by the State Championship held on the floor of
the State House in Harrisburg. (Shameless plug: both
tournaments were won by my Downingtown High team in 1994.)
The format was deservedly derided and I don't know if
it still persists.
