Ten. 10, sir. At least, that's how it was this year at
NW Regionals.
Let us also not forget the
Kansas HS format. 16 tossups, each about one sentence
long (I'm sure they've actually asked, "Who wrote
Paradise Lost?"). Questions 1-3 are all from one category
(Language Arts), 4-6 from Social Science, 7-9 from Math,
10-12 from Science, and 13-15 from Fine Arts. Tossup 16
is THE foreign language question. A posterboard is
held up that has some phrase in Spanish, French, and
German. You have to buzz and give the translation. And
that's the end of the game.
I've never seen
Kansas format in action, but the thought of doing so
just scares me.
