Martin d. PGA

The Supreme Court ruled today that golfer Casey
Martin may use a cart on the PGA tour. The Reuters
article states that in writing for the 7-2 majority,
Justice Stevens "said the walking rule was neither an
essential attribute of the game itself nor an indispensable
feature of tournament golf."

It will be
interesting to read the whole opinion, when it is available,
but the surface implications are that in
competitions, the disabled may request and expect accomodations
in all but the "essential attribute(s)" and
"indispensable feature(s)" of a game.

This may be a good
time to revisit the discussion of what to do when
Gallaudet or the Alabama School for the Blind announce they
are coming to your tournament.
