The Ontario mirror of the Third Annual Vancouver Estival Trivia Open (VETO) was held in London, Ontario, on the University of Western Ontario campus. Replacing Vancouver with London leads to the handy acronym "LETO", which fittingly is the Russian word for "summer." Leto is also the mother of Apollo and Artemis in Greek myth, and coincidently there was a question about her in one game. A team from Bowling Green could not make the trip, so we ended up having only three teams, which were rather uncreatively known as: University of Western Ontario A (Adam Bishop and Kristin Bishop) University of Western Ontario B (Zhan Huan Zhou, Jonathan Altman, and Matt Trudgen) Simon Fraser University (Zafeer Alibhai and Carlos Hernandez) UWO B was originally known as "Waterloo" due to Zhan's prior affiliation with them, and because Alt and Matt joined Zhan to make up a team. But we didn't want to have "Waterloo" winning a tournament at Western, especially if the team wasn't really made up of players from Waterloo :) Carlos and Zafeer happened to be in Ontario and played as a Simon Fraser team. We played a triple-round robin, where each team played 6 games and had 3 byes. There was only 1 game per round: 1. UWOA 250 SFU 110 2. UWOB 210 SFU 185 3. UWOB 290 UWOA 55 4. UWOA 290 SFU 105 5. UWOB 240 UWOA 205 Since UWO B was undefeated at this point, UWO A and SFU had one playoff round to determine who would face UWO B in the final: 10. UWOB 395 UWOA 70 Because Zhan, Alt, and Matt could not all be in the same place at the same time later that night, Matt and Adam made up a team and played against the winning team in Vancouver, in a cross-Canada phone matchup moderated by Brian Hight in Texas.
