Formal announcement for etchuck

This is a followup to a previous post about my
transition from Cleveland.

I am pleased to announce
that I have accepted a research associate position at
Duke University Medical Center (Durham, North
Carolina) in the Department of Pediatrics, effective
September 15, 2001. For those who are interested, the
projects involved in this laboratory are focused on the
molecular processes that govern congenital heart defects,
with some focus on electrophysiology in heart
development. The project seems a natural extension of work I
have been involved with at Rainbow Babies & Childrens
Hospital, Case Western Reserve University, and MetroHealth
Medical Center. I expect that this position will last two
years.

As of September 1, I officially step down as advisor
for the Case Western Reserve University College
Trivia Club and assume the position of "advisor
emeritus", maintaining an ancillary relationship with the
Club, including temporary webmaster until a suitable
one is identified. I am happy to say that the
organization I helped to build in 1994 is in wonderful shape
and in wonderful hands.

At this time, I wish
to reduce my activities in the college circuit,
taking no more than a counselor/advisory role with the
Duke and/or University of North Carolina academic
teams. Although I intend to attend more than a handful
of competitions out of the Triangle area, I will
assist both organizations in planning the 2002 ICT if
needed.

As for the high school circuit, I maintain my full
affiliation with PACE and will continue to promote excellence
in high school academic competition across the
country as the Southeast Regional Representative. I make
myself available to officiate high school competitions
run by the UNC and Duke teams and any others outside
the area as my experiments, schedule, and finances
permit.

I will continue my activities with Ohio Academic
Decathlon for the remainder of the academic year
(2001-2002), including overseeing the interview and speech
competitions. I plan on being co-director for the 2002 state
competition and continue my recruiting efforts to ensure a
high-caliber jury for the tournament. I also have offered
myself as an advisor to the North Carolina AD state
director as they are just beginning a program in the state
and have requested program guidance and experience
which I feel I can offer them.

I thank everyone
who has been involved in academic competition for
making my time in the area so enjoyable. I will
certainly miss the usual helter-skelter of the runs to
BJs for school supplies and Brueggers/Einstein
Brothers for bagels in 30-degree-F (or lower) weather.
