FOGHAT Trash Tournament

Below is a repost of the announcement for FOGHAT,
my open trash tournament in case you missed the
first announcement. All information is the same, except
Berkeley will now be writing 2 of the 13 packets and also
be mirroring the tournament. UTC will also be
mirroring FOGHAT.

It is my pleasure to announce the
second annual installment of my open trash quiz bowl
tournament, FOGHAT (Face-Off Gauging High Achievement in
Trash).

FOGHAT 2001: A Bass Odyssey will be held on October 21,
2001 at the campus of my alma mater, the University of
Missouri-Rolla (located oddly enough in Rolla, Missouri). This
is the Sunday after Rollapalooza, the open academic
tournament to be held by the UMR Academic Competition
Organization. Since FOGHAT is on a Sunday, I intend to make
sure it ends by 4:30 PM at the latest on Sunday to get
everyone on the road at a decent time (we met that goal
with time to spare last year). What follows is
hopefully answers to some of the questions you might have
about FOGHAT...

Who is running FOGHAT?
Yours
truly, Jeremy White, a UM-Rolla alumni and currently a
chemical engineer for Quaker Oats R&D, will organize the
event and serve as tournament director. Ben Lea will be
serving as Assistant Tournament Director and the UMR ACO
will also help coordinate the event and provide some
of the staff.

Do I need to write
questions?'
No, 13 packets of questions will be written by Jeremy
White and Ben Lea.

What's the tournament
format?
Untimed trash questions. Competition wise, the tournament
will consist of a round robin of some type followed by
a playoff of some type. Exact details will be
determined after field size is known.

Who is eligible
to play?
It is an open tournament, so anyone can
play except the tournament authors.

What will
it cost?
The team fee will be $60/team for
competition and $5/player for lunch (which will be brought in
to make sure we get out of there at a decent time on
Sunday). A $10 discount will be given for teams bringing a
competent moderator and/or working buzzer system. A $5
discount will be given to any team consisting of
participants in Rollapalooza (as either player or
volunteers).

What if I cannot find a team or if I need an extra
player to complete my team?
Send an e-mail to me at
jmwhite_at_... and I will be happy to try to match you up with
other interested players.

Can I mirror FOGHAT at
another location?
Possibly. E-mail me at
jmwhite_at_... to discuss details of that
possibility.

Prizes:
If Foghat.com still has them in stock, the top team
trophy will once again be the stunningly beautiful Fog
hat. Many other prizes will be given and they will be
trashy.

How do I register or ask questions not answered
here?
Send an e-mail to Jeremy ( jmwhite_at_...
).

Thanks and I hope to see you at FOGHAT,

Jeremy M.
White
