I would like to say a few bits about some of the
reaction going on around my campus, UC Berkeley, over the
past few days and make some other comments. In no way
at all am I implying in my statements that anyone
who partakes or has partaken in this forum expresses
the views I will discuss.
First of all, no one
should believe for a second that we brought such a
cowardly, horrific act upon ourselves. Never was there an
ultimatum, and the responsible parties did not attack
military targets but attacked thousand and thousands of
innocent citizens. The United States, as arrogant as some
would like to believe, extends alot of aid to alot of
countries.
This is not Kosovo. This is not Vietnam. This took
place on American soil.
Woe
to they who say that retaliation will merely be a
show of force on the part of this country. As a
citizen of this country, I expect protection and delegate
the authority to provide such protection to the
United States government. I will not comment on what
sort of action should be taken as I will not begin to
make normative arguments about the uses of power,
military or
otherwise.
