Re: Middle East politics reading list

Regarding the last few books:

Quandt is
William Quandt at the University of Virginia (I think).
Peace Process: American Diplomacy and the Arab-Israel
Conflict since 1967

Dale Eickelman's books are both
excellent and hard core (as are his classes).

The
other one I'd recommend is Righteous Victims by Benny
Morris. I've now used this book in three different
classes. It's an exhausting and relatively unbiased
account of the Palestinian-Israel Conflict.

Other
than that, most of the stuff I've read has been more
historically than dealing with the current situation. As a
general history, there's a good book by Malcolm Yapp
called The Near East since the First World War. It's a
bit dry, but it's an excellent reference tool. It's
been through several editions and I have no clue what
the most recent edition is.
