It would also appear that history is dependent,
at least in part, on people - while you could posit
that all the various properties of a Twinkie could
have been discovered by students at UCLA as easily as
Rice, all but the most explicitly and deterministic
versions of history accept that people have a part in the
process - questions about what would have happened if
Kennedy was not assassinated, if Lincoln hadn't been
president during the Civil War, etc. I think that this is a
critical difference.
