Re: A Letter to Pres.Bush and Congress

Osama bin Laden has stated this week that there
will definitely be more attacks on America, and seemed
to imply that they would take place this week. Let
me tell you exactly how much fun it is to work in an
office in DC right now, taking the Metro to commute back
and forth. I'm one of the most liberal people I know,
but Osama bin Laden and the Taliban represent a
continuing clear danger to the United States. Do you realize
how many people an outbreak of plague or smallpox or
anthrax would kill? Or if they released sarin gas in a
subway system, how horrible that would be? I'd rather a
few innocent Afghan citizens died than, for example,
the entire population of the DC area. Or Los Angeles.
Or Chicago. Or Atlanta. Or London. Or Islamabad. You
get the point. You know things are bad when you hear
bin Laden's threat and hope that it's "just" a
bombing he has in store.

My point is, these
"people" are major threats to us, and have not stopped
threatening to kill many of our citizens. Peace and safety
have their price, and I for one am willing to pay it.
Of course I don't *like* it, but I'm sick of
academia and some of my fellow liberals pretending that it
isn't necessary. Their lives are just as much at risk
right now.
