12 Angry Men

OK, having just gone to jury duty on Monday, I'm
in the mood to respond. Of course, I didn't get
picked, I never do, being
white/anglo-saxon/protestant/male/engineer; so I'm still hungry to pass judgment on someone!
:-)

The first argument, that the defendant couldn't have
done this because he was too busy = lame.

Second, that there was nothing to be gained because
there's no monetary payoff in QB = lame.

Third,
that cheating ruins the game and makes it no fun
anyway = true, but doesn't mean a person could still not
derive some pleasure from the attention and recognition
of finishing well in a tournament.

Fourth,
that the defendant's style of play and preparation
favors the ACF format = this is perhaps his most
plausible argument.

Fifth, that the defendant could
have hacked into the TD's system and stolen the
questions = sounds implausible, and in any case, there
appears to be no evidence for this
accusation.

Sixth, that the defendant's scores could have changed
because of the teammates he was playing with = also
plausible.

THEREFORE, not knowing this person nor having seen him play,
but based solely on the charges I've seen levied
against him on this board, and on his own testimony (it
was brave of him not to plead the Fifth)...I hereby
cast my vote for NOT GUILTY. If this were a criminal
case, I'd say I could not find him guilty beyond a
reasonable doubt. If it were a civil case, I would say there
is not even a preponderance of evidence against him.
So, I say we let the matter drop.

P.S. A Scout is: trustworthy, loyal, helpful,
friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
brave, clean, and reverent. I hope Cam is all these
things if he's wearing the Eagle badge.
