Re: NAQT Div. 2 eligibilty

Ed Cohn offered a summary statement clearer than
the one I used: "In short, when an undergraduate
completes his or her fourth year on the quizbowl circuit,
plays at an ICT (in either division), is on an SCT team
that qualifies for the ICT (in either division), or
has twice played on an
SCT Div I team, he or she
becomes ineligible for Div II play in the following
year."

And to answer Matt's question, yes it is intended to
go into effect in 2003 with no grandfathering. If a
player is on a non-qualifying Division I team for a
second time this weekend, they must continue in Division
I for any future sectionals. The bare possibility
that anyone might change their 2002 plans in light of
this information is why we wanted to make the
announcement ahead of this year's sectionals, albeit not very
far ahead. I don't believe anyone has in fact ever
yet played in Division II SCTs after twice playing in
Division I SCTs, but the hypothetical possibility seemed
to be a potential loophole we wished to close, in
the spirit of the division as being for novice
collegiate players.
