When checking the original French title of "The
Hockey Sweater," I found that it had been published in
French as "Le Chandail de Hockey." A common published
title in the original language should be
acceptable.
Web translators shouldn't be used for such thing.
Going back and forth between English and French like
this is probably almost uniquely a Canadian thing.

As for the story, it's about a Quebecois boy who
wants a Canadiens jersey but get a Maple Leafs one by
mistake. Hence the "abominable maple leaf" and the "hockey
sweater"
