Round robin plus double elim worked fine for us
too. The only thing I didn't understand was how we
managed to have six (count 'em, SIX) byes total
(including five on Saturday while playing a total of five
games excluding playoffs).
On Friday night there
were four rooms in the fold. On Saturday, for most of
the day, there were only three. I have NO idea why.
All I know is that with 11 teams there, it would have
been easy to have 8 playing at once - instead it was
rarely more than six. I can't think of any reason to
make half your field have a bye at the same
time.
