Re: Speaking of pronunciation guides...

FWIW, Latin is, generally, phonetic, In Classical Latin, one need
only remember that "v"s are pronounced as "w"s and "c"s hard like "k"
(with the exception of popular proper names--Although the Romans
would have called Cicero [ki-ker-oh] such a pronunciation would
likely be confusing to a QB player) every other letter is pronounced
generally how it is done in english, but there are no silent
letters. (thus Horatia is [hor-ah-ti-ah] and not [hor-ay-sha]
Vowels are more complex, but often long. (most "a"s are "ah"s, "o"s
are "oh" "e"s and "i"s vary and on generally has to know the length
of the vowel just by knowing it. (leaving the moderator/question
writer/editor) to fend for themselves. (although any decent latin
dictionary would give you the lengths).

Church latin I know softens the "c"s and the "v"s become "v"s
often "t"s are "ts" (as in Tootsie) but since I have less experience
with that, i'll leave it there.

Greek is hard to say in general because of the fact that most
everything has already been latinized before we hear of it. Thus [Ah-
khi-leh-ohs] becomes [A-kil-ees] and [aye-as] becomes [ay-jax]

anyway.. that's my 8 drachs... well, now 2 lepta or so.

anyway.
