Moon Pie (TM) Classic: full results and gratitude

Congratulations again to Kentucky A and Tennessee, winners of their
respective divisions at the 4th annual Moon Pie(TM) Classic. Full
team results are below (individual stats will follow in a second
message.) But first there are a lot of people to thank.

It takes a lot of work to put together a tournament of this size.
Thanks go to assistant TD Stephen Taylor, UTC's stats goddess Dorothy
Morisch, registrar Shannon Moore, chief engineer Wally Edmondson,
used packets rehab therapist Yolanda Fernandez, and house readers
James Quintong, Phil Groce, Jason Russell, Andrea Rossillon, Joseph
Dion, Keith Hudson, Chris Walker, Dren Rollins, Eric Emmett, Scott
Sherman, and Andrew Swallom. Thanks also to Jeff Hoppes and the crew
at Princeton's Buzzerfest for providing their submitted packets and
valuable help in editing ours, and to freelance question writers
Jason Horn of Tulane, Jason Carl Mueller of Missouri-Columbia, and
Seth Teitler of Cal-Berkeley. And again, thanks to Chattanooga
Bakery for the use of their registered trademark Moon Pie and for
those marshmallowy projectiles whose launching signals the culmination
of the last tournament weekend of the school year at UTC.

As for those results, we had a full round robin in each division (11
teams in Div. I, 13 in Div. II.) With the longer round robin in D
II, there would be a playoff only if needed to break a tie for a
trophy position; in D I, the top four teams would meet in a playoff.

Team Name	Win Loss	Points	Opp Pts	Diff/GM
Kentucky A	9	-	1	3495	1210	228.50
Florida Atlantic 7	-	3	2700	1750	95.00
Illinois B	7	-	3	2575	1710	86.50
Kentucky B	7	-	3	2430	1855	57.50
Illinois A	7	-	3	2755	1720	103.50
Emory A	5	-	5	1960	2045	-8.50
U. of Central Florida	5	-	5	1855	1930	-7.50
Georgia	4	-	6	1780	2040	-26.00
U. of the South	2	-	8	690	2750	-206.00
Virginia Tech A	1	-	9	660	2640	-198.00
Florida C. C. Jacksonville	1	-	9	1130	2380
-125.00

We had four teams tied for three playoff positions, but amazingly
head-to-head records sorted it out perfectly. Kentucky B had swept
the other 3 and was thus seeded 2nd, Illinois A had swept the two
remaining and was thus 3rd, and Florida Atlantic 4th.

In the semis Kentucky A beat FAU 245-155. Illinois A beat Kentucky B
325-145, then won a tiebreaker shootout 75-45 to advance. In the
finals, Illinois A squeaked past Kentucky A on the last bonus,
225-215. But the shootout and the trophy went to Kentucky A, 115-65.

In Division II, after the round robin, we had:

Team Name Win-Loss Points Opp Pts	Diff/GM
Tennessee 11 - 1 2320 785 127.92
Emory B 11 - 1 2555 640 159.58
South Florida 10 - 2 1660 975 57.08
Valencia CC 10 - 2 2415 940 122.92
Wallace State CC 7 - 5 950 1210 -21.67
Kentucky C 7 - 5 1055 1350 -24.58
Bevill State 5 - 7 1120 1230 -9.17
Central Florida CC 5 - 7 910 1085 -14.58
Texas-Dallas 4 - 8 1000 1325 -27.08
UTC 4 - 8 605 1140 -44.58
South Georgia A 2 - 10 380 1470 -90.83
Virginia Tech B 2 - 10 540 1520 -81.67
South Georgia B 0 - 12 200 2040 -153.33

This meant playoffs for 1st and 3rd. Emory B beat Tennessee 165-95,
forcing a shootout, which Tennessee won 60-15. South Florida beat
Valencia 105-80 for 3rd.

Individual results will follow shortly.
