Niall Karunaratne was a player for the University of Edinburgh who competed in 14 tournaments for the institution between 2020 and 2025. Despite studying for undergraduate and masters degrees in Physics, Niall also boasts an impressive knowledge of European and World History.
Niall finished in the top 10 scorers at the UK mirrors of MRNA III: Booster Shot, and MRNA IV: Herd Immunity, in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Niall was on the Edinburgh team that reached the semi-finals of University Challenge during the show's 51st series. During his final two years at the University of Edinburgh, Niall adopted a more aggresive style of buzzing, reaching at least 14 negs across each of his final three tournaments.
Niall is known for his hatred of trash and tournament briefings, as well as being one of the only quizzers who purports to actively hate quizbowl.
