Robin Richards was previously the coach at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, GA and is currently the coach at Commerce High School in Commerce, GA. He previously served as the President of GATA.

HS Coaching

Richards coached the "QuizJags" academic team at Cedar Shoals high school for over a decade, capped by winning the Atlanta-area WSB-TV High Q TV tournament in 2014. Cedar Shoals also consistently won or finished highly at several smaller local competitions such as the self-created AAAA Region 8 competition each year and had several high finishes in the AAAA division at the GATA state championships. Since 2017, Richards has coached the Commerce "QuizCats." They made a 2019 SSNCT appearance.

At both schools, Richards has hosted a number of high school tournaments that have attracted a number of schools from the local region. He gave a talk at the 2021 Qwiz coaches conference about directing tournaments.

College Career

Richards played for the UGA quizbowl team as an undergraduate and while taking graduate classes, participating in a number of NAQT and College Bowl events. His career was highlighted by a defeat of Florida at a CBI regionals event in 2005.

  • Lost UGA Quizbowl $5,000 in funding by claiming he was a student when he was taking a break from taking his one grad class a semester (See Weiner's Factual Argument Paradox) (Source: UGA Student Life archives)
  • Admitted that he created an NAQT tournament just so his team could qualify for the HSNCT by finishing atop a 4-team field, which resulted in Cedar finishing 172nd out of 176 teams (Source: Cedar Shoals QuizJags Facebook Group: "3- You created your own tournament so you could get back to Chicago").
