West Point High School is a "Small" school located in Cullman County, AL.
West Point High School's Scholar's Bowl Team began competing outside of their local county league in the Fall of 2012, when former Brindlee Mountain and Columbia High School coach Lee Henry became coach.
In their first year of playing true Quiz Bowl, West Point High School went undefeated at the Cullman County Scholar Bowl Championship and at the ASCA District Tournament. They also qualified for the ASCA High School State Championship for the first time in the school's history. Unfortunately, team MVP Ricky Arendall fell ill the morning of the State Championship Tournament and was unable to attend. West Point went 0-5 at the event. However, the team also placed at several other events and competed at the 2013 HSNCT, where they missed making the Small School Playoffs by one win. They officially placed #15 in Small Schools at the 2013 HSNCT.
Currently in their second year under Coach Henry, the West Point Scholar's Bowl Team has once again remained undefeated at the Cullman County Scholar Bowl and at the ASCA District Tournament. West Point remained undefeated at Cullman County Scholar Bowl in 2014, 2015, and 2016- making it five straight years of going undefeated in the tournament. The team has also attended each HSNCT and SSNCT since this article's initial creation.
West Point broke the single-game ASCA scoring record on February 10, 2017 when a team consisting of Will Parker, Tom Parker, Austin Frederick, and Kohan Lovett scored 660 of a possible 700 in a win over Holly Pond.
The team was awarded the class 5A state championship honors in both 2016 and 2017.
