The Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, often referred to as Alabama Cyber Tech or ASCTE, is a public magnet high school located in Huntsville, AL. The school's Quiz Bowl team began in 2021 with Kerri Watson as the head coach and has since achieved great success at various state and national tournaments. The school has hosted many events including the 2022 Sentinel Middle School Invitational, 2023 Sentinel Middle School Invitational, 2024 Sentinel Intramural, and the 2025 Sentinel Intramural Tournament.

Accomplishments

  • Won the Division I Alabama Varsity State Championship in 2024 and 2025 for back-to-back titles, with Tate Osborne as the highest individual scorer in both occurances.
  • Placed 2nd in the Open Division of NAQT's 2023 and 2024 small school national tournaments, with Tate Osborne also being the highest individual scorer at each tournament.

Current Players

Leo Osborne: Current Captain of the 2025-26 ASCTE varsity A-Team who specializes in Literature, Science, Fine Arts, and Philosophy. Fine Arts and Philosophy player for the 2024-25 ASCTE varsity A-team. Leo is Tate's younger brother and the former captain of the Monrovia Middle School A-Team. Junior.

Anders Johnson: History player who formerly played for Florence Middle School. Junior.

Jacob Wilkinson: History, Sports, Pop Culture, and General Knowledge player for the 2025-26 ASCTE varsity A-Team who formerly played for Monrovia Middle School. Junior.

Hilton Tran: History, Mythology, and Geography player for the 2025-26 ASCTE varsity A-Team who formerly played for Berry Middle School. Sophomore.

B-Team

The current ASCTE B-team is not currently active at ASCTE. In the 2024-25 season, it was led by Captain Jacob Wilkinson and included players such as Anders Johnson, Brycen Borden, William Mitchell, Jack Ryan, and Christopher Esker. When they played as the junior varsity team, Leo Osborne captained that season.

Former Players

Tate Osborne: Tate was a former captain for the varsity A-Team who focused on the areas of Literature, History, Science, and Current Events. Previously played and captained the A-team at Monrovia Middle School. His last game was played at the 2025 PACE and he currently attends Auburn University.

Brooks Phillips: He was a Geography, Psychology, Economics, American History, and Sports player for the ASCTE varsity A-team. Previously attended Monrovia Middle School but did not participate in Quiz Bowl there. His last game was played at the 2025 PACE and he now attends Auburn University.

Eugene Park: He was a Mythology and Mathematics player for the ASCTE varsity A-team. Previously played for Liberty Middle School. He currently attends Columbia University.

Elizabeth Orton: Elizabeth was the Religion, Biology, and Pop Culture player for the ASCTE varsity A-team from 2021 to 2024 before graduating. She had previously attended Discovery Middle School, where she played for its Quiz Bowl team. Elizabeth now attends Mississippi State University.
