Brown County High School is a rural public high school in Mt. Sterling, Illinois located halfway between Peoria & Quincy in western Illinois. It competes in Class A, the "small school" division, of the Illinois High School Association's State Championship series. The Hornets also compete in the Western Illinois Valley Conference and are rivals with the likes of Pleasant Plains and Rushville-Industry. During the 2020's, Brown County emerged as one of the stronger teams representing western Illinois. The Hornets have also competed on WGEM's Academic Challenge in Quincy.
