Erik Nelson is the director of the Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl League, as well as the founder, president, and chief editor of Play Quiz Bowl. As an editor, he has produced every ACRONYM released since 2014, and has done the same for every Super ACRONYM, TOEJAM, and several other sets. He is also the founder of the Bounceback Foundation, a non-profit focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention in the quiz bowl community and elsewhere.

In 2022, Erik succeeded Robert Hentzel as the director and president of the Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl League, which he had served as a staffer and occasional tournament director for nearly ten years. He also played in the league as a high schooler.

As a competitor, Erik is an accomplished pop culture player and solid generalist in both the quiz bowl and trivia circuits. He has posted strong finishes at Chicago Open Trash and the Pop Solos event in the Online Quiz League. He played high school quiz bowl at Roseville and, albeit very briefly, at the University of Minnesota. At the former, he competed in the 2001 National Academic Championship.
