Mario Dumont was the leader of the Action démocratique du Québec from 1994 to 2009 and held the position Leader of the Opposition of Quebec for over a year. He then got a show on LCN, which is a French Canadian news channel.

Dumont lost the 1986 finals of Genies en herbe, costing his team the chance to go to France and compete against their champions. Describing his fit after losing, Paul Wells of Maclean's wrote: "He hit his head against a wall repeatedly, and took to throwing pocket change around the room as his teammates looked on. He blamed himself, but also Radio-Canada, which, thanks to a technicians' strike, hadn't broadcast the tournament." [1] Dumont apparently needed the lights and cameras to perform well, rather than desks and buzzers.
