Quizbowl journey started with my dad destroying me at Trivial Pursuit, but BrainQuests gave me more confidence. I lost a Geography Bee in elementary school because I didn't know Canadian rivers... Still don't. However, I really dug doing the Middle School KMO and Science Olympiad (with a little MathCounts added in). Started quiz bowl proper when I got mono and couldn't ride the pine playing basketball anymore at Marquette HS in St. Louis, MO. As a junior, I became decent at late '90s quizbowl speed checks and made all-district. But lost my only district tourney b/c my twin brother and #3 on the team went to a State Band instead. Senior year, my coaches quit; thusly ending my scholar bowl career.

I got back into it as a coach in 2006, and have been hooked every since. We won MSHSAA district championships in 2007, 2009, and recently in 2011. At state in 2007, we got went 0-3 against solid teams, but my two best players were hamstrung by my lack of coach ability. So I apologize to them for that.

RBHS went 4-6 at the 2010 HSNCT, but we didn't play that great, we ended up 136th or so. My teams have gotten steadily better at MOQBA has increased its reach, and during 2010-11, Charlie Dees (of NKC fame) has become an excellent coach and resource of RBHS Scholar Bowl. The analogy one of my perceptive (obviously) student made is that Charlie is the head coach, mostly, and I'm the General Manager. I'm okay with that. :-)
