Western Branch High School is located in Chesapeake in the Hampton Roads area in southeastern Virginia and is coached by Brett Riordan. Western Branch does not currently participate in the invitational circuit but is active in VHSL.

In VHSL, Western Branch was part of the VHSL Eastern Region until the 2014 VHSL Realignment. After the 2014 realignment, the school became part of VHSL Region 6A South. Starting with the 2017-18 season, Western Branch will be part of VHSL Class 6 Region A as a result of the 2018 VHSL Realignment.

Western Branch won the Eastern Region tournament in 2011 and 2012, and were runners-up in 2000 and 2002. Under the leadership of Vincent Lin (Class of 2016), Western Branch achieved its greatest successes. They placed second at the 2014 Region 6A South tournament and at the state championship Lin made the all-state team with a score of 250 points. In 2015 and 2016, they won the Region 6A South tournament and in 2015 came in second to Langley at the state championship. In 2015 Lin also made the all-state team with a score of 365 points. These finishes made Western Branch the only 6A South school to receive a medal at the state championship during the existence of Class 6A, as all other 6A South schools at states had finished 3rd or 4th. Western Branch won the Conference 2 tournament in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Western Branch attended the NAQT Virginia State Championship in 2012 and 2016, placing 3rd and 7th, respectively. They also placed second at the Trojan Academic Tournament in 2015.

Western Branch played Battle of the Brains in the mid-to late-2000s, placing 9th in the 2007 Battle of the Brains.
