CBI Region 9 Results

In Region 9, it went like this:

After round robin:
DePauw 9-0
Notre Dame 8-1
Indiana 5-4 or 6-3
Purdue 4-5 (w/ tiebreaker over Wabash)

(1) DePauw defeats (4) Purdue
(2) Notre Dame defeats (3) IU

(1) DePauw (now 11-0) defeats (2) Notre Dame (now 9-2)
(3) IU defeats (4) Purdue (Purdue eliminated)

(2) Notre Dame (now 10-2) defeats (3) IU (IU eliminated)

Because of double round robin with top 4 teams, DePauw and Notre
Dame essentially play a best 2 of 3 with DPU up 1-0, due to earlier
play-off victory.

(2) Notre Dame (11-2) defeats DePauw (now 11-1)

In the final match, DePauw finishes ahead 165-140. Notre Dame
protests an answer they gave of "Zaire" for a question relating to
the current legal tender of the "Democratic Republic of the Congo".
Initially, they had been given a neg (despite a direction to prompt
if the answer "Zaire" was given, which was missed by both the
moderator and the judge) and DePauw had not gotten the TU correct
during the match, so the match continued as normal. CBI National
headquarters is called and it is ruled that Notre Dame is to be
given the correct answer and have the neg taken away, making the
score 165-155. Then they are to be read a TU (for ONLY Notre Dame
to answer -- whose answer was "amber", with the final two clues
calling it "this fossilized resin" and "important to the plot of
Jurassic Park") and given a 30-20-10 bonus (name the NFL team, 30-20-
10, where the 20 pt clue mentioned that Larry Czonka of this team
was in the Hall of Fame...), thus declaring Notre Dame the winners.
Both teams thereby finish the day with 2 losses and a 2-2 record
against one another.
