Re: ACF Nationals -- quick results

9, 10 and 11 were Vandy, Emory A and FSU I think...(I know that
Vanderbilt lost to both of the above in the playoffs but I think
their record coming in from their bracket was such that they still
came out ahead...I'm not sure about after that....Florida won the
bottom bracket I think---at least they kicked everyone's butts in the
playoffs--depends on their record going in...

Many, many kudos to Raj for another fun and well-edited ACF
Nationals...something that really stood out was the internal
consistency in the bonus difficulty...I think this is generally one
of the hardest things to accomplish in QB...the Bhanster pulled it
off (a couple packets were quite a bit more difficult than the rest
(Wesley Matthews' and the first round of the playoffs) but they were
still internally consistent (except for the one softball mimicry
bonus), which is all one can ask for). Whoever wrote the Adrian
Leverkuhn tossup, you are to be commended...one of the best tossups I
have ever heard...

The only real screwups--the bracketing was lopsided--I think that was
obvious going in and is confirmed in the results...perhaps use bonus
conversion from regionals as a way to prevent this? The A bracket
was clearly stronger from top to bottom--even more so at the bottom
end...

The writers and editor did an excellent job of avoiding qb-oldies in
the lead-ins...one exception was the Dean Acheson tossup...
Victor Emmanuel III was not the last king of Italy...Umberto
(Humbert) II ruled for one month in 1946...although the bonus part at
issue was clearly looking for Victor Emmanuel III this is the kind of
factual error that writers can easily avoid with a little research...
(Umberto II is still alive and recently returned to Italy for 4 hours
in order to meet the pope, caused a bit of a stir)...
all in all, great job all concerned, nathan freeburg
