How are your teams run?

Our team at Athens State has run into some serious problems that
jeopardize our existence. This was our first year, and we did
pretty damn good in Div. II for a brand new team. However, our
sponsor is retiring after this summer, and no one is willing to take
his place.

What I need to know is, how do some of your teams run? Here at
Athens, the rules say that we "can't" go to a tournament without a
sponsor with us, but I've noticed that most teams do not have a
faculty member accompany them...

I'm trying to convince the administration to allow me to run the
team officially. I've been running it all year, but our sponsor had
to sign all of the out-of-state travel paperwork, etc. Anyway, I'm
trying to reduce the role of an official sponsor to a minimum, and
it would help me greatly to hear how some other teams
infrastructures are set up. IE - alot of teams post the results of
officer elections on the board. What exactly are your roles? And
do you have an official faculty sponsor who works with you?

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. I hope I can
navigate through this bureaucratic minefield and keep our little
team alive, but things aren't looking too good. Thanks.
