Thirteen teams came to Atlanta yesterday for TRASH South Regional at Emory University. In a simple round robin, Shonen Spork (Charlie Steinhice, Robert Trent, Keith Hudson and John Kilby) went undefeated, with Tone Loc and the Loc Tones going 11-1 for second place, and ODB Arthur claiming third with a 10-2 finish. (I'm told the deciding Spork/Tones game in round eleven was a nail-biter, with the Sporks winning 255-230 on the last question.) Prizes were then awarded in an appropriately Trashy manner, with the top ten scorers -- led by Anthony Bush, Fess Barker, and Charlie Steinhice -- fighting it out for movie soundtracks, including the hotly contested CD of "Dude, Where's My Car?" music. Our second place team received the CDs from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Street Fighter, Kangaroo Jack, and a last film that escapes me. As our first place team, Shonen Spork walked away with original vinyl soundtracks for Cobra, Johnny Be Good, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and Flash Gordon.
