I'm inclined to agree with Jer on this.
Tournament fees have gone up (because they could, as far as
I can tell) in the past year; as the matter stands,
the break-even point for a tournament, at least out
here, is in the neighborhood of four teams if you avoid
frills (4 teams _at_ $75/each = $300; I've never managed to
spend more than $200 on copying), for up to 24-team
tournaments. The only tournament I know of that came close to
not breaking even was the DC HS Open, between a
lower-than-market entry fee and a cruel result of NAQT's fee
determination system. And between all the money that goes in
and comes out of all the tournaments I've worked on
in the past three years here at GW, I think a grand
total of $50 has been taken in from sales.
On
that note, JCV4 will with luck be put up on the
archive very soon. JCV5 & 6, as far as I can tell, no
longer exist in complete digital forms; maybe if I get
access to a scanner and an OCR application, I can
redigitize them. Beltway 3 & 4 should be up in the near
future as well.
