The early days of the development of any sport
will see a high percentage of amateurs and a few clubs
with a more 'professional' approach to the game.
Quizbowl in its current incarnation (the independent
circuit) has only been around since the mid 1980s. The
first football game between 2 American colleges was in
the 1850s, IIRC. It took some 60 years for it to
really take off.
Just think folks, the greats of
today may be repeated on the lips of every schoolkid
some 50 years from now. :)
