Deep in the Siberia of Quiz Bowl (a.k.a. the Pacific Northwest), the 2001 PNW TRASH Regional was held last Saturday (Nov. 10th) in Vancouver, BC at Simon Fraser University. With only four teams in this year's field, a triple round robin was played to determine the winner. Chasing Rexella Too (Sarah and Hanson), representing SFU, took home the title, going undefeated with a record of 9-0. At 6-3, the Drunken Masters (Bruce, Lauren, and Amy), riding on the back of Bruce's tournament-leading individual performance, finished in second place. The Fraser Valley Crackers (Mischa and Victoria) and the Green Meanies (Tara and Ross) rounded out the field, finishing at 2-7 and 1-8, respectively. Bruce took the lead in the preliminary round and never looked back, winning convincingly. Amy and Sarah finished second and third, respectively. For their efforts, everybody took home CDs that Hanson picked up at a used record shop, including, among others, To the Extreme by Vanilla Ice, and the soundtracks to American Gladiators and Jesus: the Epic Mini-Series.
