Our reason for using 8-team single elim was due
to a combination of factors including number of
teams and the availability of rooms and volunteers. We
couldn't have done a double elimination because we
wouldn't have had any backup packets available to
us.
Personally, I am in support of the double elim format because
there is always the chance of one cinderella coming
through and getting a lucky packet or two. But in our
case, for each game, the higher seed from the
round-robin advanced.
