University Career
Brendan took an unorthodox approach by playing the 3-dot Penn Bowl as his first tournament, at which he posted a characteristic statline of 6/6/8. Throughout the rest of the 2023/24 season he played various tournaments on both Cambridge A and B, garnering a reputation for powering a lot and negging even more. Most notably he led Cambridge B to the top bracket at the 2024 British Student Quiz Championships. In the 2023/24 UK Player Poll, Brendan placed 16th on the overall ranking and dominated the newcomers ranking, being ranked 1st by 62% of the voters.
Brendan took part in the 2024/25 series of University Challenge, for Christ's College, Cambridge along with captain Oscar Despard, Linus Luu and Anniko Firman. They defeated Warwick 175–170 to win the series final. The humourous combination of his college and surname ("Christ's Bethlehem") was much remarked-upon online.
Since summer 2024, Brendan has been the President of Cambridge University Quiz Society, succeeding Rhys Lewis and being re-elected in May 2025. He also succeeded Rhys as head editor for British Novice and COOT. Having permanently replaced Harrison Whitaker on Cambridge A after his graduation, they won the 2024/25 UK mirrors of ARCADIA and BSQC, as well as being on the winning teams at ARGOS and WaShBowl Open.
