Les Roby was the longtime White Plains Academic Challenge coach and the driving force behind Westchester County, NY's, participation in the NAC; he is noted as one of the most dedicated fans of Chip Beall and Questions Unlimited in the world. He had a long testimonial on the QU website for nearly a decade, and later became a moderator for the NAC.
He retired in 2020, and now lives in Naples, Florida. He attempted to return to Westchester to stop the takeover of the county by the LIQBA, but his appeals were rejected by the region, who had grown weary of Chip's questions; after QU was sold, he fell out with Chip and left Quizbowl.
Other notable actions include suing, as president of the local teacher's union, his own school board in 1995, and promptly losing.
